RAINBOW FAMILY TILLS

The RAINBOW FAMILY TILLS are a colourful homage to a simpler time in Sri Lanka. We encourage families, in whatever shape and form to join together and save as much as they can with the express intention that the money saved is used to benefit them all. A family trip to the jungle, a family gathering at a restaurant, helping the family purchase an electronic device that everyone enjoys – options are endless, limited only by a family’s imagination.

Our hand-painted RAINBOW FAMILY TILLS begin life with Madumal on his potter’s wheel, before rainbow colours are added by Ushani, to become a stunning work of art that some feel incredibly sad to break open. But remember, the joy of filling up a clay till includes the joy of watching it smash open and spill its riches.

Madumal earns LKR 1500 for each Large & Boisterous Till, and LKR 1000 for each Nothing Nuclear About Us Till.

Ushani earns LKR 1500 for hand painting each Large & Boisterous Till, and LKR 1300 for hand painting each Nothing Nuclear About Us Till.

80% of profits from the RAINBOW FAMILY TILLS are earmarked for Grassrooted’s arts-based approach to raising awareness on the realities facing queer people in Sri Lanka. In 2025, we work with community-based organizations to use theatre, film, and music to broaden the discourse on decriminalizing same-sex relationships in Sri Lanka, and to support the Trans Equality Bill.

We also encourage businesses and companies to join our Annual Rainbow Till Campaign to support this initiative, so that we learn to respect and value each other as fellow citizens of Sri Lanka.
